After speaking with a few IRBs, one addition I think is vital is that Academics dispose of any data they collect unpaid (either HITs rejected or HITs which were never submitted because the person quit). Researchers are using this data, and they would never be allowed to with a real life participant’s data if they quit or were found to be cheating. It would be great to add a clause to the guidelines that states that researchers could dispose of this data as they would in an offline study. How can we get this added?

Maybe we could have a revision of the guidelines and publish version 2.0? This time we could probably get input from IRBs and maybe have them sign on too? What do you think?

I think that’s an excellent idea. I’m planning to join the ERB at my school as soon as this semester is over, so I can probably get them to help.
